The Dry Tortugas Islands lie about 70 miles to the west of Key West, Florida. It is the most southerly tip of the United States. Central to the seven islands is Fort Jefferson. You may recall it from your Civil War history. It is where Dr. Samuel Mudd was detained after being tried for treating John Wilks Booth, the man who shot President Lincoln.

Diving the Dry Tortugas in the eary part of July 2005, we were very fortunate to have great weather during our three and a half day excursion. The previous week there was rain and a hurricane blew in after we left the area. Fortune was looking upon us with temperatures in the lower 80's and clear skies, except for one afternoon rain shower. Hopefully, you can tell by the images below that the diving was just super.
