The Heian Maru was built in 1930 as a passenger-cargo vessel. It was used as a submarine tender and now lies on its port (left) side in about 120-feet of water.

As a submarine tender, it contained numerous periscopes. These examples were found lying along the deck in one of the ship's passage ways.

As a tender, it also contained torpedos to re-supply the Japanese submarines. The images on the left show the metal badly deteriating, the second image exposing a battery.

During our penetration we also passed through the engine room and viewed some of the machinery and gauges, etc.
