The Hino Maru is known under a number of names: Dia nia Hino Maru, Dai-ni Hono Maru, Dai-Futa Hino Maru, Hono Maru No. 2. She was originally launched on September 16, 1935 and was powered by a single six cylinder Mitsubishi diesel engine. It was relatively small, approximately 999 tons, and was used primarily as a gun boat. It was severely damaged after being bombed, rocketed and strafed and sunk off Uman Island.

This being one of our first penetration dives, and we were very cautious venturing within. Fortunately, for a beginning dive, the Hino is in fairly shallow water.

Proceeding to the bow gun, we fine the muzzle heavily overgrown with coral.
