Unkai Maru No. 6 was originally named Venus, a 3,100-ton class ship built in Great Britain in 1905. It was used as a cargo-freighter. A 3188 ton displacement vessel, its beam was 44-feet andwas 305-feet in length. One engine provided a maximum speed of 12 knots and a cruise of 10. It rests in approximately 130 feet of water and is rarely visited by divers. It lies to the Northeast of Uman Island.

Owing to the depth and our unfamilarity with the ship, our sole dive on this vessel was largely limited to exterior observation of the vessel. Easily observed on deck are dishes, kerosene lanterns and the gas masks shown below.
